Reflexology

Reflexology is a non-invasive touch therapy which uses massage techniques and focused pressure to specific areas on the feet (and hands) to promote better health through relaxation and the stimulation of the body's own healing processes.

Click to EnlargeIt is based on the principle these areas, known as reflexes, relate to the internal organs and tissues of the body in a way that the body can be mapped directly onto the feet (and hands). Finger pressure applied to these areas quickly relieve stress, harmonise the body and improve immunity. The treatment helps to activate all body systems and unblock energy pathways to the associated organ.

Improvement in pain relief, muscle relaxation, digestion, circulation and lymphatic flow can be achieved very quickly.

Reflexology is one of a few complementary therapies being recommended by the nursing profession and increasingly offered in midwifery and palliative care.

Who can benefit?

Reflexology is a gentle therapy and therefore suitable for men, women and children of all ages.

What is it effective for?

Reflexology brings relief to a wide range of acute and chronic conditions including:

  • Stress, tension, depression, headaches, migraines and insomnia
  • Arthritis, back problems, sport injuries, sciatica, aches and pains
  • Digestive disorders - IBS, constipation and indigestion
  • Respiratory disorders - asthma, sinus problems and bronchitis
  • Hormonal imbalances - PMT and menopausal symptoms
  • Sub-fertilty, pre-natal, pregnancy and post-natal care
  • Palliative care
What to expect?

Your first appointment involves a detailed consultation including general health, medical history and emotional well-being. This detail allows your practitioner to check that the treatment is safe for you and to focus on your body's needs. This is followed by a thorough examination of your feet. During the Reflexology treatment you will be able to relax in tranquil surroundings listening to soothing music.

You may experience some sensitivity, which could be due to tension or congestion in the corresponding body area. This is not a concern but an indication that the area needs more attention.

A course of treatments may be recommended to target a specific condition and restore the body's natural balance. However many clients find it beneficial to continue with regular treatments in order to maintain health and well-being.

How will you feel after the treatment?

Although the effect of the therapy is unique to each person, most clients note a sense of well-being and relaxation. Some report feeling lethargic, nauseous or tearful, but this is transitory and part of the healing process.

It is important to feed back post treatment side effects as it shows how your body is responding to treatment and allows the Relexologist to tailor a treatment plan specific to your needs.

Fertility Reflexology

Fertility Reflexology is pre-conceptual reflexology beneficial to both men and woman. Regular treatments, recommended from 4 months prior to assisted and natural conception, clear the body of toxins, reduce stress, balance reproductive hormones and stimulate the production of healthy sperm.

Reflexology and a healthy lifestyle, including nutrition and excercise, bring about optimum health, creating the ideal environment for conception and early foetal development.

Many clients feel that Reflexology has helped them to feel more relaxed and positive about their quest to become parents.
