Reflexology
Reflexology is a non-invasive touch therapy which uses massage techniques and focused pressure to specific areas on the feet, to promote better health through relaxation and stimulation of the body's own healing processes.
It is an ancient therapy with roots in Chinese and Egyptian cultures and developed by Eunice Ingham in the 1930s, based on the discoveries of the American ear, nose and throat specialist, William Fitzgerald in the early 20th century. It was brought to Europe by Doreen Bayly and has become very popular in the UK. Reflexology is growing in recognition and one of a few complementary therapies being recommended by the nursing profession and increasingly offered in midwifery, pain clinics and palliative care. Who may benefit?Reflexology is a gentle therapy and therefore suitable for men, women and children of all ages. There are certain conditions where you should avoid Reflexology and in some instances your GP's permisssion may be required. What are the potential benefits?Whilst Reflexology does not claim to diagnose, treat or perscribe, it is thought to help alleviate and improve a range of conditions, some of which are listed below. Please refer to our client's testimonials for positive feedback.
What to expect? Your first appointment involves a detailed confidential consultation to determine general health, medical history and emotional well-being. This detail allows us to check that the treatment is safe for you and to focus on your body's needs. You will be asked to remove your footwear and socks and seated in a comfortable reclining chair. This is followed by an examination of your feet. Your Reflexologist may detect subtle changes in specific points on the feet, and by working on these points may affect the corresponding organ or system of the body. The ideal is for you to almost drift off to sleep while still being aware of sensations in the body. You may experience some sensitivity, which could be due to tension or congestion in the corresponding body area. This is not a concern but an indication that the area needs more attention. A treatment session usually lasts between 45 minutes and an hour. A course of treatments may be recommended to target a specific condition and restore the body's natural balance. Many clients may find it beneficial to continue with regular treatments in order to maintain health and well-being. How will you feel after the treatment?Although the effect of the therapy is unique to each person, most clients note a sense of well-being and relaxation. Some report feeling lethargic, nauseous or tearful, but this is transitory and part of the healing process.
Reflexology for Fertility Issues Reflexology for fertility issues is beneficial to both men and woman. Reflexology and a healthy lifestyle, including nutrition and exercise, encourages optimum health, creating the ideal environment for conception and early foetal development. The recommendation is to begin preparing about four months before attempting conception. This gives the body a chance to clear of toxins and benefit from healthier living. Many clients feel that Reflexology has helped them to feel more relaxed and positive about their quest to become parents. Maternity Reflexology Reflexology helps to support women through pre-conception, pregnancy and post-natal recovery. Learn more Palliative Care Reflexology 'Enhancing Quality of Life'
